Familydemic is a collaborative international project and a network of researchers. Its goal is to advance the theoretical explanations, methods and empirical foundations for studying the diverse immediate and long-term consequences of policy responses to the COVID-19 outbreak on families, in particular for the distribution of paid and unpaid work in couples and their labour market outcomes in diverse welfare regime contexts. The cooperating countries are: Canada, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden and the US. For more information visit the Familydemic project website: In Poland, the project is carried out at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies in close cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Centre for Labour Market and Family Research (LabFam; led by  Prof. Anna Matysiak (, in a dynamic international research environment.


 ✔ PhD in economics, sociology, political science or a related discipline, preferably with thesis related to labour market, family and/or gender inequalities;

✔ experience in conducting quantitative empirical research on family, labour market, social inequalities (including gender inequalities) and/or public policies, confirmed by publications in peer-reviewed international journals from the JCR list;

✔ excellent knowledge of modern statistical data analysis techniques and statistical packages (e.g. STATA, R or similar), excellent analytical skills;

✔ experience in working with large data sets (experience in working with longitudinal data, in data validation or data harmonization will be an advantage);

✔ interest in the topics covered by the project, knowledge of the theories and literature related to family or/and labour market ;

✔ excellent communication skills;

✔ fluent English (knowledge of Polish language is NOT required)

The candidate should meet the conditions set out in the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018. (Dz. U. of 2020, item 85 as amended) and in the UW Statute (Resolution No. 443 of the UW Senate of 26 June 2019 on the adoption of the UW Statute, UW Monitor of 2019, item 190).

 The selected candidate will be responsible for:

✔ conducting empirical research on the impact of policies introduced in response to COVID-19 pandemic on gender inequalities in work and family responsibilities, in collaboration with the project manager (Prof. Anna Kurowska) and her deputy (Prof. Anna Matysiak), using European comparative survey data (EU-LFS, EU-SILC) as well as specially collected survey data from the Familydemic Survey.

In particular, the tasks would include:

✔ harmonisation of the international Familydemic dataset;

✔ preparing data from the Familydemic Survey and other international comparative datasets for analysis;

✔ reviewing the literature;

✔ conducting quantitative analyses on the data from Familydemic Survey/EU-SILC/LFS;

✔ cooperation with PI in constructing policy indicators and contextual indicators;

✔ contributing to the writing of scientific articles;

✔ assisting a doctoral student in the project;

✔ presenting project results at international conferences;

✔ participate in research activities and events organised within the project;

✔ participating in research activities and events organised by the LABFAM team.

  4. a letter of recommendation from a researcher with a PhD, working as a professor at the an academic institution/university;

The recruitment procedure consists of two stages. On the basis of the documents submitted, the commission will select candidates who will be invited for an interview, which constitutes the second stage of the recruitment process. The interviews will take place in the first half of November 2021.

Number of posts: 1; Period of employment: 3 years;  Working hours: full-time

Monthly salary: 7300-7700 PLN gross, depending on qualifications and professional experience + so called “thirteenth salary” (annual bonus of about one additional salary).
