New grant from National Science Center: consequences of COVID-19 pandemics
Anna Matysiak and Anna Kurowska were granted nearly 400,000 EUR by the National Science Center to study the consequences of COVID-19 pandemics on men’s and women’s participation in the labour market and division of unpaid labour between partners in an international perspective.
The research grant entitled “Short and long term effects of the COVID-19 pandemics on partners’ division of paid and unpaid work and their labour market outcomes“ will allow them to collect novel data and perform cross-country comparative studies in collaboration with a Familydemic network, built by Anna Kurowska. The network integrates top researchers in the field of work and family from such countries as Sweden, Italy, Poland, US, UK, Canada and Germany. The network will investigate how the social distancing policies, introduced in response to COVID-19 pandemics, affected partners’ division of childcare and housework and what are its repercussions for men’s and women’s occupational careers. We will also study the role of country-specific welfare policies and cultural norms for alleviating the negative consequences of the pandemic on gender inequalities in the labour market.
